Media coverage of the Trans Equality Report

After the Transgender Equality Report was published on January 14th 2016, there was a flurry of media interest responding to the findings. In our Storify, we have collected some of the reactions, tweets and interviews from the day. Our round up should be helpful in giving you a general idea of the media coverage about the House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee’s first report, but these are just some of the mainstream highlights. Many trans people and organisations across the country gave interviews, statements and comments about the report’s recommendations and continue to do so.

We worked closely with the committee to promote the report and ensure trans people across the country shared their views. The report was covered on many of the main TV channels, including Sky News, ITV News, Channel 4 News, BBC Breakfast, and Victoria Derbyshire. Amongst others, the Guardian, the Telegraph, FE Week, Huffington Post UK, the Independent, VICE Broadly and BBC News Online wrote about the findings. Also, All About Trans volunteers and activists spoke about the report on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme, BBC Radio Kent, BBC Radio Newcastle, BBC Radio Foyle and BBC Radio London. Overall, we were very pleased with the media coverage of the report.

Check out our Storify, out Twitter page (@AllAboutTrans) and follow #transinquiry to keep up with the coverage. For a full list of coverage in the media, check out this comprehensive list from UK Trans Info (dating back to early 2015).
